Puny Astronaut Game 2 - Project Solar
One of Puny Astronaut’s core pillars is accessibility. Before we even knew what the game was I designed an introductory flow that tailored to a wide range of player needs.
With this in place I also began designing specific elements of potential directions for this project, detailed below.
In the months prior to Skye Tales release, Puny Astronaut began the groundwork for game 2. Project Solar was the name for the collection of ideas, prototypes, and pitches we curated.

This allowed the team to see and feel having accessiblity options pop up before the game starts, and how a loose flow of a tutorial could feel.

Character Creation
Two versions of a similar themed Character Creation screen.
We wanted to allow some customisation, but not have an overwhelming character creator. Three options plus a name field gave a comfortable amount of permitations

Crafting System
Sailforge had a crafting menu that had to show items, recipes, and the stack of things being crafted.

Building System
Clear communication to the player of what they can build, where they can build, and at what level were all considerations when designing the building system UI.
Version 1 is a classic pop up style, with tabbed menus for seperation of types of buildings.

Editing System
The editing system was created to alivate the frustration point of ripping down and recreating a structure when all you wanted to do was change the colour or move it a little.
A player could long press on a building, or decoration they had placed and the edit menu would pop up. The radial version on the left was a more minimal UI, while the pop on the right had all the information on show immediately.

I worked directly with our Technical Artist to create a building system that would update based on placement, and in order to allow players more freedom to customise, placed decorations seperately.
